About the Temple of Amada

The Temple of Amada is located about 180 kilometers south of the High Dam; People think the Temple of Amada is the oldest Egyptian temple in the Nubia area. During the 18th dynasty, the Temple of Amadawas built by Pharaoh Thutmose III. The gods Amun and Re-Horakhty were honored with a dedication to the building while it was being made. After his father died, his son and successor, Amenhotep II, who had taken over the throne, finished this building’s complicated design. Thutmose IV, who came after Amenhotep II, decided to cover the temple’s courtyard with a roof and turn it into a “hypostyle hall” with columns.

This was done so that the space could be used for religious events. The name Amun was taken from the temple when Akhenaten was in charge of the area. On the other hand, Egypt used the word again when Seti I was in order during the 19th dynasty. During their time in power, several 19th dynasty kings “Helped decorate the temple and did some minor repairs.

The most famous of these kings was Seti I, who ruled during the time of Ramesses II. On the stelas of the Viceroys of Kush Setau, Heqanakht, and Messy, as well as those of Chancellor Bay, the building projects that each viceroy worked on during the reigns of Ramesses II, Merneptah, and Siptah are listed. On the stelas of Chancellor Bay, you can also read about the projects built during Ramesses II’s reign.

When the building was first thought of as a piece of architecture, it was supposed to have a tower, a courtyard, and an entrance that led to a sanctuary. But these pieces were never added. But when Thutmose IV put a roof over the open forecourt, “offering scenes” were painted on the walls and pillars. The scenes for Thutmosis IV were on the left side of the building, and those for Thutmosis III and Amenhotep II were on the right.

Even though the outside of the temple is dull and falling apart, the brightly colored reliefs carved into the walls are the best things about the inside. The most private part of the Temple of Amada is where some of the most beautiful comforts are. In this scene, Thutmose III and Amenhotep II are either holding each other while making sacrifices to several Egyptian gods or holding each other while making sacrifices to the gods.

A picture of Amenhotep II racing with an oar and a hap is on the left side of the vestibule. There are also pictures of Horus and Thoth putting a crown on him (or navigational instrument). Off to the side of the sanctuary is the cult chamber, which is full of exciting pictures showing how the temple was built and dedicated. In these episodes, you can watch the “ritual of the stretching of the string,'” the “ceremonial making and laying of bricks,” and the “offering of the temple to its gods.”Amada-Temple
