Top tips for your Nile cruise

Practical advice from a team that’s sailed the Nile for 16 years — the little things that make a big difference.

Staying connected: if your ship has no Wi-Fi, ask your guide for a local SIM card when you arrive — coverage along the Nile is good.

Balloon over Luxor: on the west bank, take a sunrise hot-air balloon ride to float above the ancient monuments before touring.

Beat the sun: Egypt is hot even in January — pack a hat, sunglasses and SPF 50, and keep a bottle of water with you at all times.

Drink bottled water: stick to sealed bottled water rather than tap water throughout your trip — it's widely available everywhere.

Baksheesh (tipping): tips are a warm thank-you for good service, not a demand. Carry small notes for guides, crew and drivers.

Cards & cash: ATMs and card payments are common in cities and at major sites, but keep some cash for markets and smaller stops.
