The city of Esna has some of the most famous ancient Egyptian temples. During the Roman and Ptolemaic times, Esna’s influence is clear in the temples in this area, especially the Temple of Esna, which is also called the Temple of Khnum. Esna was one of the most well-known cities in Ancient Egypt.

The Egyptians called El-Dakka Pselqet, while the Greeks called it Pselchis. This temple is currently set up on a small hill. In its design, it has a facade, a pylon, a courtyard, and two holy places. It is thought to be the only Nubian temple with a front that faces north, and it was built from north to south to follow the Nile.
