Alongside it stands the smaller temple of Queen Nefertari. When the Aswan High Dam threatened to flood both, they were cut apart and rebuilt on higher ground in the 1960s, a rescue that drew support from dozens of countries. You then return to Aswan and travel on to Luxor.
Day 4: Luxor’s West and East Banks. Visit the Valley of the Kings, the royal burial ground where pharaohs were laid to rest, with a selection of open tombs (the choice can change).
